Major Department Stores Kick Off 2026 with Year’s First Major Sales Events
As the calendar turns to 2026, South Korea’s leading department store giants are rolling out their highly anticipated New Year’s regular sales. This annual tradition marks the beginning of a new retail cycle, offering consumers significant discounts across a vast array of products, from high-fashion apparel to essential home goods. Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, and Hyundai Department Store have all announced extensive sale periods, aiming to attract shoppers and clear out winter inventory while introducing fresh offerings.
Lotte Department Store’s “2026 New Year Regular Sale”
Lotte Department Store is leading the charge with its “2026 New Year Regular Sale,” commencing on January 2nd and running through January 18th. This comprehensive event will feature the participation of over 410 brands, promising discounts of up to 50% on a wide selection of merchandise.
A significant focus of the sale will be on winter fashion. Major fashion labels are set to offer substantial reductions, with items like down coats and other winter season-off products available at discounts reaching up to 30%. This presents a prime opportunity for consumers to acquire high-quality winter wear at a fraction of its original price.
Beyond seasonal markdowns, Lotte is also incentivizing larger purchases. From January 2nd to January 11th, customers who spend a specified amount or more at a single brand, across all product categories—including luxury goods, fashion, sports, accessories, kitchenware, home fashion, and home decor—will receive a Lotte Mobile Gift Certificate equivalent to 7% of their purchase amount. This tiered reward system aims to encourage broader engagement with the sale and reward loyal shoppers.
Shinsegae Department Store Launches “Shinsegae Festa”
Shinsegae Department Store is simultaneously launching its grand sale event, dubbed “Shinsegae Festa.” This nationwide affair will commence on January 2nd, encompassing all 13 of Shinsegae’s stores across the country. The event boasts the participation of over 300 brands, spanning popular categories such as fashion, accessories, and living goods.
Shoppers can expect to find particularly attractive deals on street fashion, children’s wear, and sports items, with discounts soaring up to 70%. These steep reductions are part of Shinsegae’s strategy to clear out existing stock and present compelling value propositions to its customer base. The “Shinsegae Festa” is designed as a large-scale season-off and sale event, promising a dynamic shopping experience.

Complementing the direct discounts, Shinsegae has also introduced a reward program. From January 3rd to January 11th, customers making purchases of luxury goods, watches, or jewelry at specific price thresholds within single-brand stores will be eligible for a 7% reward. This initiative is tailored to appeal to high-spending customers, offering them added value on premium items.
Hyundai Department Store’s “The Sale” Promises Winter Clearance
Hyundai Department Store is joining the New Year’s sale fray with its event, “The Sale.” This nationwide sale will be active at all Hyundai Department Store locations, including flagship stores like the Apgujeong Main Store and The Hyundai Seoul, from January 2nd to January 18th.
The sale will feature over 300 brands across the fashion, living, and sports sectors. Consumers can look forward to purchasing autumn and winter season products at discounts of up to 50% off their original retail prices. This represents a significant opportunity for shoppers to refresh their wardrobes and home essentials as the winter season winds down.

In addition to the general sale, individual store locations will host unique promotions. For instance, the Trade Center Store will present a “Traditional Fashion Grand Sale,” offering discounts of up to 30% on winter items from a curated selection of popular fashion brands. These store-specific events add an element of local appeal and targeted discounts, enhancing the overall shopping experience across the Hyundai Department Store network.
These aggressive sales strategies by the three major department store chains signal a strong start to the retail year, offering consumers unparalleled opportunities to shop for desired items at significantly reduced prices.
